Blind Luck, a daughter of Pollard's Vision   ,won or placed in all nine of her races, all graded stakes, and was the division’s leader by earnings, with $1,679,662. Victories in five stakes, including the Betfair TVG Alabama Stakes (gr. I) and the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), played a major part in her being named champion 3-year-old filly.

“Her success lies in her consistency,” said California trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who co-owns the filly with Dr. Mark Dedomenico of Seattle and John Carver and Peter Abruzzo, both from Chicago. “It’s her best attribute. All the good ones try hard all the time.”

Blind Luck’s superb 3-year-old season carried over from the filly’s 2-year-old days. In her final three starts at 2, Blind Luck won the Oak Leaf Stakes (gr. I), ran a close third to subsequent champion She Be Wild in the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I), and romped by seven lengths in the Hollywood Starlet Stakes (gr. I). She finished second in Eclipse Award balloting.

Distance and track location proved no problem for Blind Luck her championship season. She captured the Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) at a mile at Santa Anita and won twice at 1 1⁄16 miles, in the Fantasy Stakes (gr. II) at Oaklawn Park and in the Delaware Oaks (gr. II). She also took the 1 1⁄8-mile Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs and scored at 1 1⁄4 miles in the Alabama at Saratoga.

Against her fellow Eclipse Award finalists, Blind Luck beat Evening Jewel in the Las Virgenes and the Kentucky Oaks, and defeated Havre de Grace in the Alabama and the Delaware Oaks. Blind Luck also finished ahead of Havre de Grace while second in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (gr. I) and was beaten a neck by her in the Fitz Dixon Cotillion Stakes (gr. II) while giving her 10 pounds.

Fairlawn Farm, owned by Dr. Bill Baker and his wife, Terry, is the breeder of Kentucky-bred Blind Luck, who is out of the winning Best of Luck mare Lucky One.

Blind Luck began her 4-year-old season with a second in the Jan. 16 El Encino Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita.
