Marla Bickel, President and CEO of Blood-Horse Publications, has announced that Eric Mitchell has been appointed Executive Vice President of the company. In this capacity, Mitchell will be part of the executive team that will continue to guide the Thoroughbred industry’s leading multimedia company into the future. He will retain his primary role of Editorial Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Blood-Horse.

“As we developed new ways to service readers in print, on the web, and on mobile platforms, Eric has proven to be a creative and innovative leader,” stated Bickel. “Under Eric’s direction, BloodHorse.com has been redesigned and enhanced with new data-rich features for both the auctions market and racing industry, video race replays from most North American tracks were integrated into automated online results charts, and international stakes results were added. The Stallion Register Online also broadened its international scope through partnerships in Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and South America.  In this expanded role, Eric will continue to develop every product to its full potential.”

Mitchell, 48, joined the The Blood-Horse in October 1999 as a senior staff writer covering business issues. Prior to that Mitchell was a reporter and columnist for Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal in Charlotte, N.C. He also spent more than eight years as a reporter and senior reporter for the Ocala Star-Banner, covering Florida’s horse industry among other subjects. While at The Blood-Horse, Mitchell has served as editor of The Blood-Horse MarketWatch financial newsletter, Research Director, and Executive Editor for Digital Media.

Eric Mitchell said, “I share the optimism for Thoroughbred racing expressed by Dick Duchossois during a speech Jan. 9 at the Thoroughbred Club of America. The industry faces challenges, but they are not insurmountable, and The Blood-Horse will continue its mission of serving those who make their livelihood in Thoroughbred racing while educating and attracting new participants to the sport.”

The Blood-Horse editorial team produces a wide variety of media, including The Blood-Horse weekly magazine; Auction Edge, a hip-by-hip guide to public auctions; the quarterly National Stakes Conditions Books; BloodHorse.com, the industry’s leading Web site; The Blood-Horse Stallion Register, an annual guide to Thoroughbred stallions, published in print and on-line; The Blood-Horse Source, an annual industry directory; The Blood-Horse MarketWatch, a monthly newsletter focusing on bloodstock investment; and a wide variety of daily and weekly e-newsletters.
