The Thoroughbred Owners of California is offering a free seminar, “Ownership 101 – An Introduction to Racehorse Ownership” at both Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields Jan. 22, each beginning at 8:30 a.m. PST.
The introductory session is designed to explain the basics of acquiring a racehorse, choosing a trainer, and costs of ownership. Panelists will discuss the basic principles of becoming an owner, using their own experiences to illustrate each topic.
At Santa Anita, speakers will include horse owner and breeder Roxanne Martin Umphenhour, owner James Rust, bloodstock agent and clocker Gary Young, and trainer Howard Zucker. The Golden Gate Fields panel includes longtime owner Bob Ansara. Following the panel discussions, barn tours will be conducted to allow attendees an opportunity to see racehorses up close and ask questions of trainers.
Southern California participating trainers are Brian Koriner, Mike Machowsky, Eddie Truman, and Danny Velasquez.
At Santa Anita, the seminar will take place at the Top O’ The Stretch just past Clockers’ Corner. Golden Gate's meeting will take place in the track's Bay View Room in the Turf Club.
Although free and open to the public, reservations are recommended and can be made by calling TOC at (800) 994-9909 or visiting www.toconline.com.
