Sidney's Candy , the favorite for the $150,000 San Fernando (gr. II) Jan. 15 at Santa Anita, has been scratched.
According to
Daily Racing Form, trainer John Sadler said the son of
Candy Ride was withdrawn from what would have been his 4-year-old debut because he was “off behind,” with the primary concern being his right hind leg. He is scheduled to undergo tests Jan. 17.
Romping winner of the Dec. 26 Sir Beaufort (gr. III) to complete a terrific sophomore season, Sidney’s Candy was expected to be an odds-on favorite in the 1 1/16-mile race. With his defection, the field of eight was left without a clear-cut favorite.
