Animal welfare authorities in Palm Beach County, Fla., are seeking the owner of a horse discovered wandering in a rural area of the county last week.
Capt. David Walesky, operations manager of the Palm County Animal Care and Control, said area residents spotted the 12-year-old Thoroughbred mare wandering near Loxahatchee, Fla., on Jan. 7.
The mare was transported to the Animal Care and Control equine facility where she is receiving rehabilitative care.
"She has an injury to her left front leg, is emaciated, and we're investigating how she got that way," Walesky said.
Walesky said the animal had a partial lip tattoo and might have been used as a polo horse.
Anyone with information about the mare or her owner should call the Animal Care and Control Department a 561/233-1250.
