French Stallion Green Tune Dies at 20

Green Tune, a French champion and sire, was euthanized in early January after fracturing his right hind leg, according to the Racing Post. The 20-year-old son of Green Dancer stood at Haras d’Etreham in Normandy.

According to the Post, Green Tune’s European progeny earnings in 2010 were the second-highest among France’s active stallions. His runners were led by French group I winner Fuisse

Another of his 2010 runners, French group winner Zagora, was sent to the United States, where she ran second in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (gr. IT) at Keeneland.

Green Tune is represented by 34 career stakes winners, including Italian champion Lune d’Or

Green Tune, who raced as a homebred for members of the Wertheimer family, won the 1994 Dubai Poule d’Essai des Poulains, (Fr-I, the French Two Thousand Guineas). The following year, he captured the Prix d’Ispahan (Fr-I) and was champion older miler in France and in Europe.

Green Tune, who was produced from the Mr. Prospector mare Soundings, suffered from arteritis for three years and during that time covered only mares also carrying the virus.
