Ramon Dominguez, the leading jockey on the New York Racing Association circuit the past two years, padded his early advantage in the 2011 standings by winning five races Jan. 8 at Aqueduct.

The 34-year-old jockey won with his first three mounts on the card, guiding Jimmy Vegas ($6) to a 9 1/4-length romp in race 1, picking up a second score when Another Silver Oak ($4.30) held on by a nose in race 3, and piloting So Scott ($4.70) to a 6 1/2-length triumph in race 4.

Winless in races 5 and 6 and without a mount in race 7, Dominguez rode Dance Quietly ($5.40) to a victory in the $65,000 Busanda Stakes. He closed the card by riding Life’s Measure ($4.80) to a three-length score in the final race.

Since the inner track opened on Dec. 2, Dominguez has won 43 races, 23 more than second-place rider David Cohen. Dominguez, who leads all riders in North America with 16 victories so far this year, is one of three finalists for the 2010 Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey, with the winner to be announced Jan. 17 in Miami.
