Apprentice Rider Tops Calder Standings

Apprentice jockey Jose Alvarez led all riders at the recently concluded 2010-11 Calder Casino & Race Course Tropical meet with 43 winners, besting runner-up Manoel Cruz by three.
The leading trainer was Bisnath Parboo with 26 victories. Steven Dwoskin and Eddie Plesa, Jr. both sent out 16 winners to tie for second in the trainer standings.
The Tropical meet leading owner’s trophy went to Frank Calabrese, whose horses won 24 races. Sherry Parboo took second place in the owner standings with 20 winners.
The final day of the 52-day Tropical meet was Jan. 4. Neighboring Gulfstream Park will open its winter meet on Jan. 5.
