Jockey Robby Albarado suffered a broken right heel at Fair Grounds Jan. 2 when he came off his mount leaving the paddock for the second race.

The mishap occurred when the 3-year-old filly Mollys Missb'havin became unruly. Albarado, who was transported to Tulane Medical Center for X-rays, told a track official he would undergo a CT scan to determine whether surgery is necessary. There has been no estimate on a timetable for Albarado’s return.

The incident caused a lengthy delay to the start of the race because the other jockeys in the race had to wait for the ambulance to return.

Through Jan. 1, Albarado was fifth in the Fair Grounds jockey standings with 18 winners from 103 starters and earnings of $743,562.
