Churchill Downs Inc. will contribute $69,103.28 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to benefit the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S.
The $69,103.28 donation is comprised of employee contributions from the company's six racetracks and nine off-track betting facilities in Kentucky, California, Florida, Illinois, and Indiana. The contributions were matched, dollar-for-dollar, by the company.
Funds donated by Churchill Downs Inc. will be earmarked for victims of the attacks on New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, as well as their families.
"Following the attacks, CDI employees began an internal fund-raising campaign to benefit the victims and their families," Churchill president Tom Meeker said. "Our employees dug deep and gave generously to help fellow Americans in need, and I am touched by their strong desire to respond to this national tragedy."
The employee contributions were collected Sept. 12-21. The company employs about 1,100 full-time employees nationwide.
