Quelle Amore, one of 2 mares to bring 300,000 guineas to top the Dec. 1 session of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale.

Quelle Amore and Shawmari Lodge were each sold for 300,000 guineas ($489,420) to top the penultimate session of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale Dec. 1.

Quelle Amore, a group II winner bred in Germany, was purchased by Northern Farms’ representative Fumihiko Nakajima, who outbid agent Grant Pritchard Gordon of Badgers Bloodstock and Irish breeder Paddy Twomey. Consigned by Andreas Jacobs’ Newsells Park Stud, the 7-year-old daughter of Monsun was offered in foal to Dubawi, the leading second season stallion in Europe this year.

Kern Lillingston’s Ed Sackville, acting on behalf of Ronan Burns, also went to 300,000 guineas ($489,420) to secure the Irish group III-winning 4-year-old filly Shamwari Lodge. A daughter of Hawk Wing produced from Revoque mare Ripalong, herself a half sister to group I winner Pipalong, Shamwari Lodge was purchased by Sackville after he saw off the determined Eishin Farms trio from Japan. The mare was consigned by Barnane Stud on behalf of Andrew Russell.

“She was an exceptionally tough racing filly and that was what we particularly liked,” Sackville said. “She also scoped exceptionally well with a grade I result. She has been bought as a breeding prospect.”

Tattersalls reported 174 horses sell for 5,563,000 guineas ($9,077,351), down from the 2009 same-session gross of 6,112,800 guineas ($9,502,259) for 161 lots. The session average fell 15.8% from 37,968 guineas ($61,960) to 31,971 guineas ($52,162). The median was unchanged at 16,000 guineas ($26,112) each year.

The sale at Tattersalls paddocks in Newmarket, England, concludes Dec. 2.
