Gloria de Campeao, winner of the 2010 Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (UAE-I), will begin his stallion career in Sweden, according to a Swedish source. One of the world’s richest horses, with earnings of $9,258,355, the Brazilian-bred runner raced for Swedish native Stefan Friborg, who also plans to stand him at stud in Brazil.
Gloria de Campeao was retired from racing this past summer after suffering a tendon injury. He was being prepared for the Cox Plate (Aust-I).
Foaled in 2003, Gloria de Campeao was a group II winner in Brazil, but his best racing came overseas. He not only captured the Dubai World Cup and finished second in the race in 2009, but won the 2009 Singapore Airlines International Cup (Sing-I). Gloria de Campeao was runner-up in the Singapore race this year.
Gloria de Campeao raced once in North America, finishing unplaced in last year’s Arlington Million (gr. IT), won by subsequent Eclipse Award winner Gio Ponti.
Gloria de Campeao is by Impression (by Mr. Prospector’s grandson Rubiano) out of the Clackson mare Audacity.
