The Kentucky racing scene shifts to Turfway Park Dec. 2 for a fourth-month run that comprises two meets.
The holiday meet will run through Dec. 31, followed by the winter-spring meet from Jan. 1-April 3, 2011.
The holiday meet, which traditionally has featured five programs per week, will offer racing four days a week on a Thursday through Sunday schedule until Dec. 19. Thursday and Friday post times are 5:30 p.m. EST, and Saturday and Sunday post times are 1:10 p.m.
After a Christmas week break, racing will resume Dec. 26 for six straight days through Dec. 31. Post time will be 1:10 p.m., with the exception of New Year’s Eve, a Friday, when post time will be 5:30 p.m. in conjunction with several ontrack parties.
The winter-spring meet will begin Jan. 1 at 1:10 p.m. Racing will be held Thursday through Sunday in January, and Friday through Sunday in February, March, and April. There will be a daytime program Monday, Feb. 21.
Field size is fairly large through the first two draws for Dec. 2-3. Turfway will pay about $110,000 in purses per day, and in the process maintain its customary stakes schedule, including the grade II Lane’s End Stakes for 3-year-olds in March 2011.
The first stakes of the holiday meet, the $50,000 Holiday Inaugural, will be run Dec. 4. Other stakes, also worth $50,000, are the Dec. 11 My Charmer, Dec. 18 Prairie Bayou, and Dec. 26 Gowell.
