A stallion season telephone auction held Nov. 30 by the California Thoroughbred Breeders' Association raised nearly $50,000, according to the CTBA.

By law, proceeds from the auction must go entirely toward lobbying expenses of the CTBA in support of legislation on behalf of the state's Thoroughbred breeders,  the CTBA said in a press release.

“I appreciate the California breeders working together to support our industry and our efforts by buying these seasons,” said Leigh Ann Howard, president of the CTBA. “By taking this opportunity the breeders not only support our efforts in the state but also nationally.”

The sale featured seasons to 46 of the state’s top sires, donated by stallion owners. Unusual Heat, Papa Clem  , Swiss Yodeler, and Good Journey   were among the stallions represented.
