Keeneland's September yearling sale ended on Sunday with an average price that was almost even with last year's record figure. But the number sold and the gross revenue declined significantly from the all-time highs established in 2000.

Keeneland reported that the 2,895 horses sold grossed $254,190,600, down by 12.6% and 12.9%, respectively, from last year's comparable figures. The average of $87,803 was down by less than one percent. And the median price of $25,000 was down by 7.4%.

In 2000, 3,313 horses were sold for a gross of $291,827,100 and an average of $88,085. The median was $27,000.

During this year's 13th and final session, the 152 yearlings sold grossed $1,043,200 and averaged $6,863. The median price was $4,850. Last year, 140 horses were sold for a gross of $1,684,200 and an average of $12,030. The median was $7,500.

The top price on this year's final day was the $41,000 brought by a daughter of Crown Ambassador. Consigned by Justice Farm, agent, the filly was purchased by Martin Stables. She is the first foal produced from the 11-year-old Tiffany Ice mare Cold Porridge. The mare won 10 races and finished second in a stakes at River Downs.
