Jockey Gracia Sustains Multiple Fractures

Jockey Jason Gracia is listed in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Jamaica Hospital Nov. 28, according to his agent, Jorge Velasquez, after a spill the preceding day in the third race at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Velasquez said that Gracia suffered fractures ribs, a broken collarbone, and a hairline fracture of his neck. He is to undergo a further evaluation, the agent said.
 
Jockey Jose Bermudez, also involved in the spill, said that he was released from North Shore Medical Center with bruised ribs, and that he expects to be sidelined at least one week.
 
In the race, a New York state-bred maiden special weight at 1 1/16 miles on the turf, Ryan and Jack, trained by Pat Kelly, stumbled and fell on the far turn, causing Gracia, 28, to crash to the turf. October Dreams, trained by Cleveland Johnson, collided with Ryan and Jack as he was on the ground, unseating Bermudez, 41.
 
October Dreams, a 3-year-old gelding, appeared to be uninjured, while Ryan and Jack, a 4-year-old gelding, suffered a skull fracture and was euthanized.
