Overbrook Farm's D. Wayne Lukas trainee Snow Ridge led through the opening half-mile, fell a half-length behind City Zip in the stretch, then came back on that rival to win Saturday's $147,500 Kentucky Cup Sprint Stakes (gr. II) at Turfway Park. Under Pat Day, Snow Ridge completed the six furlongs in 1:09.22 on a fast track, finishing a neck in front of City Zip.
Snow Ridge (Tabasco Cat -- Snow Forest, by Woodman) paid $10.20, $3, and $2.10. City Zip returned $2.40 and $2.10 and completed the $20.60 exacta. Dream Run paid $2.10 to show. Wild Hits and Homem Ra completed the order of finish in the field of five 3-year-olds.
Snow Ridge earned $94,500 for the win, his fifth in 11 career starts and first in a stakes race. In prior stakes attempts, Snow Ridge finished sixth in City Zip's Amsterdam Stakes (gr. II), 10th in Point Givens Kentucky Cup Juvenile (gr. III), second in the Sapling Stakes (gr. III), and third in the Tyro Stakes. He was bred in Kentucky by Mt. Brilliant Farm LLC. (Chart, Equibase
