Colt, Sakhee's Secret - Malelane, brought 42,000 guineas to top the first day of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.

Topped by a Sakhee's Secret colt, the Tattersalls December Foal Sale began Nov. 24 with across-the-board increases in key statistical categories.

The Newmarket, England, sales company reported 129 horses were sold for 1,230,000 guineas, up 7% over the 1,154,100 guineas figure for the comparable session one year ago.

The average and median of 9,542 guineas and 5,800 guineas, respectively, were up 31% and 57%. The 81 horses not sold represented a buyback rate of 38.6%, up from the 31.5% figure for 2009.

Top price of 42,000 guineas was paid by agent Richard Frisby for a colt from the first crop of Sakhee's Secret. Consigned by Whitsbury Manor, home of Sakhee's Secret, the colt is out of multiple stakes producer Malelaine, by Prince Sabo.

Calling the colt a "standout individual," Frisby said he was purchased on behalf of a pinhooking syndicate.
