The Maryland Jockey Club has unveiled the 2011 Preakness logo for the 136th running of the $1 million Preakness Stakes (gr. I), the middle leg of the Triple Crown to be run Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Pimlico Race Course.
Designed for the 12th consecutive year by the Leffler Agency, which has won four major national awards for its Preakness logos, the 2011 logo focuses on the horse and jockey which are composed of overlapping, tapering streamers that appear to be blowing in the wind.
"These playful design elements give the impression of swift motion and convey the festive and celebratory nature of the Preakness Stakes," according to a release from the MJC. "The modern rendering of next year’s logo is balanced by the use of traditional Maryland colors, red, black and gold.
"The Preakness logo creation is a highlight of the year for us at Leffler and has been since 2000," Leffler Agency president Bob Leffler said in a statement. "Conveying the tradition but being different enough to be collectible is the challenge that our staff meets year after year. These logos cannot ever look alike!"
Tickets for the 2011 Preakness went on sale Monday, Nov. 22, with seating information and ticket reservation forms available at www.preakness.com.
