Vinery Ltd. will be expanding its stallion operation in New York State in 2011. According to Vinery president Tom Ludt, Vinery will take over management of Empire Stud, which will become Vinery New York. Vinery’s primary stallion operation is based in Kentucky near Lexington.

“We’re excited about this expansion,” Ludt said in a statement. “Vinery stallions Posse   and Repent   were relocated to New York, and they have been very well-received by the New York breeders. We have seen benefits from operating in a regional market, and with casinos boosting the New York program, we think that there will be a lucrative market for New York-breds.”

Ludt said the new operation will be supported by a group of Vinery-owned mares that will be sent to New York to be bred and foaled. Jamie LaMonica, former Empire Stud president, will continue to be involved with Vinery New York.

Vinery also operates Vinery Florida near Summerfield.
