Summer Bird , the 2009 champion 3-year-old male, will begin his stallion career for $15,000 in 2011 at Ben P. Walden Jr.’s Pauls Mill near Versailles, Ky. Summer Bird (Birdstone —Hong Kong Squall, by Summer Squall) won the Belmont Stakes (gr. I), the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I), and the Shadwell Travers Stakes (gr. I) last year.
In other stud news, Pauls Mill dropped the fee for Artie Schiller to $10,000 from $15,000; kept Bellamy Road at $10,000; and reduced the fee for U S Ranger to $5,000 from $10,000.
All fees are payable stands and nurses.
