Grosse Pointe Anne, a half sister to impressive Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner Uncle Mo was sold for $400,000 to top the Nov. 12 session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
Consigned by Three Chimneys Sales, agent for Grosse Pointe Farm, the 3-year-old daughter of Silver Deputy out of stakes-placed Playa Maya, by Arch , was purchased by WinStar Farm.
Grosse Pointe Anne was bred in Kentucky by Dr. D. Michael Cavey and was purchased by trainer Ken McPeek, agent, for $170,000 from the Denali Stud consignment to the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale. From six starts, the filly had one win, a maiden claiming event at Saratoga.
Keeneland reported 277 horses were sold during the session for gross receipts of $10,349,100, down 4.5% from the $10,837,000 total paid for 258 horses during the comparable session a year ago. The session average of $37,361 represented a decline of 11% from the $42,004 figure a year ago and the median fell 15.6% to $27,000 from $32,000. The session buyback rate was 17.6%.
Through five sessions, 1,120 horses have been sold for $118,752,100, for an average of $106,029 and a median of $60,000. During the corresponding period last year, 1,049 horses had grossed $129,721,200, for an average of $123,662 and a median of $70,000.
Second-highest price of $195,000 was paid by Betz Thoroughbreds was the 5-year-old Vindication mare Modification, in foal to Spring at Last . Consigned by Kingswood Farm, agent, Modification is out of the stakes-winning Afleet mare Swift Alliance, and a half-sister to stakes winners Sky Alliance, Classic Alliance and Prime Ruler.
A filly by Speightstown out of stakes winner Saratoga Humor, by Distorted Humor was the session’s top-priced weanling, bringing a final bid of $180,000 from Boulder High Equine. The filly was consigned by Fairlawn Farm.
Fillies by Indian Charlie and Street Boss each brought $160,000. Pacific Racing bought the Indian Charlie filly out of graded stakes-placed Slew Peg, by Fusaichi Pegasus . Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Gulf Coast Farms Complete Dispersal, the filly is from the family of graded stakes winners Slew Gin Fizz and Igotrhythm.
A filly from the first crop of Street Boss out of the Saint Ballado mare Wadena sold for $160,000 to BG Stables. She was consigned by Bill Reightler, agent.
The sale continues Nov. 13 at the Keeneland sales pavilion in Lexington.
