Quality Road to Stand for $35,000
Multiple grade I winner Quality Road , who was retired from racing after running in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) at Churchill Downs Nov. 6, will stand for $35,000 in 2011 at William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Ky. Four-year-old Quality Road (Elusive Quality --Kobla, by Strawberry Road) arrived at Lane’s End Nov. 8. Horse of the Year and dual leading sire A.P. Indy, who has stood his entire career at Lane’s End will stand for $150,000 in 2011. The son of Seattle Slew stood for the same price in 2010. Lane’s End also stands dual leading sire Smart Strike . The son of Mr. Prospector, who led the general sire’s list in 2007-08, currently ranks fifth this year. Smart Strike will also stand for the same $75,000 fee as in 2010. The fees of several other stallions on Lane’s End’s roster were either raised or reduced for 2011. Those that were reduced are as follows: After Market , $12,500 to $7,500; Aragorn, $7,500 to $5,000; Langfuhr , $17,500 to $15,000; Pleasantly Perfect , $10,000 to $7,500; and War Pass, $20,000 to $15,000. The following fees were raised for 2011: Candy Ride , $25,000 to $40,000; City Zip , $10,000 to $15,000; and Mineshaft , $20,000 to $25,000. Dixie Union and Pleasant Tap who both formerly stood at the farm, were euthanized this year due to health ailments, while another major stallion, Kingmambo, was pensioned. Kingmambo’s half brother Mingun, who additionally stood at Lane’s End, was sent to York Stud in Denmark, while Wando , a son of Langfuhr, will stand at Schonberg Farm in Ontario, Canada for 2011.
