Super Saver , the 2010 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner who was retired from racing in October, will stand his introductory season at Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky., for a fee of $20,000.
“We've had overwhelming response since announcing Super Saver's retirement, and we felt at $20,000 he would be placed in the market to have a strong first book of mares, while also providing good value to breeders,” said WinStar president and CEO Elliott Walden. “When you take into account that he was a record-setting 2-year-old, the Derby winner, and hails from the hottest active family in the stud book, there isn't another horse entering stud around that price that can match his credentials.”
By champion Maria's Mon, Super Saver hails from one of the prolific Phipps female families. His dam, Supercharger, by A.P. Indy, is a full sister to graded stakes winners Daydreaming, Girolamo, and Accelerator. Supercharger also is a full sister to She’s a Winner, dam of WinStar sire Bluegrass Cat, second on this year’s leading first-crop sire list. The family descends to the great foundation mare La Troienne.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Super Saver retired with earnings of $1,889,766.
