Keeneland announced Friday it will catalog 4,116 lots -- 4,115 horses and one stallion share -- for the upcoming November Breeding Stock Sale. Last year Keeneland cataloged 5,111 lots. The decrease for this year is due to the mare reproductive loss syndrome that struck Kentucky farms last winter/spring.
The 2001 sale will feature 2,094 broodmares or broodmare prospects, 1,887 weanlings, and 134 horses of various other ages. The 11-day auction begins on Nov. 5 and continues through Nov. 15.
The sale will feature broodmares in foal to stallions such as A.P. Indy, Danzig, Deputy Minister, Fusaichi Pegasus, Giant's Causeway, Storm Cat, Thunder Gulch, Unbridled, and Seattle Slew. The auction will also offer weanlings by sires A.P. Indy, Exploit, Forestry, Gone West, Storm Cat, Seeking the Gold, Sadler's Wells, Saint Ballado, Stravinsky, thunder Gulch, and Unbridled.
Last year Keeneland sold 3,267 lots in the November sale for a total of $302,049,800, the second-highest in the history of the breeding stock sale. The average for 3,266 horses was $92,466.
