Golden Ballet, a grade I-winning and grade I producing broodmare by Moscow Ballet, brought $1.4 million during the first session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

Aisling Duignan, director of sales for Coolmore’s North American division, Ashford Stud, signed the ticket for Golden Ballet, a daughter of the unraced Slew o' Gold mare Golden Jewel Box. In foal to Unbridled's Song, Golden Ballet was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Aaron and Marie Jones.

“Golden Ballet will go to Ireland to be bred to Galileo,” said Duignan of the 12-year-old mare, who is the dam of this year’s Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Drosselmeyer   (by Distorted Humor  ), and other stakes winner and grade I-placed runner Stage Luck (by Unbridled’s Song).

In addition to the Belmont, Drosselmeyer also placed second in the Dwyer Stakes (gr. II) and third in the Louisiana Derby (gr. III). Holding a career record of 3-3-2 from nine starts, he has earned $801,170.

On the track, Golden Ballet won the 2001 grade I Santa Anita Oaks and Las Virgenes, plus the grade II Santa Ynez and Railbird. As a 2-year-old, she won two additional ungraded stakes at Hollywood Park. The mare retired with a record of 6-2-2 from 10 starts and earnings of $732,145.

Galileo, a son of Sadler's Wells, stood the 2010 season at Coolmore Stud in Ireland for a private fee.

As agent, Duignan also purchased the session’s first seven-figure horse, the broodmare Society Selection, a grade I-winning daughter of Coronado's Quest, for $1.85 million. Taylor Made Sales Agency, as agent for the phase two of the Irving Cowan dispersal, consigned the bay mare, who will remain at Ashford and is scheduled to be bred to farm stallion Giant's Causeway  , according to Duignan.
