Distinctive Dixie Shakes Up Chilukki

Distinctive Dixie rolls to victory in the Chilukki.

Distinctive Dixie claimed her first stakes win in when she rolled to a 1 1/2-length victory in the $171,900 Chilukki (gr. II) (VIDEO) preceding the second day of the Breeders' Cup World Championships Nov. 6.
In the familiar yellow and green silks of the Robert and Beverly Lewis Trust, Robby Alabarado drove the 7-1 shot Distinctive Dixie to victory for trainer Wally Dollase. The 5-year-old daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus --A Lady From Dixie, by Dixieland Band, completed the one-turn mile for fillies and mares in 1:36.67 over a fast track.
Third Dawn, ridden by Calvin Borel, finished second, 1 3/4 lengths ahead of 7-5 favorite Always a Princess, whose chances were compromised by a stumble at the start for jockey Martin Garcia.
Distinctive Dixie pressed a contested pace from third early, with Double Espresso showing the way through solid fractions of :23.21 and :46.67 for the first half-mile. Third Dawn, close up from the start, led at the quarter pole by a head after completing six furlongs in 1:11.06. Distinctive Dixie, three-wide on on the turn, challenged for the lead approaching the stretch and edged away to a 1 1/2-length advantage at the furlong pole. She held sway to the wire while being kept to the task by Albarado.
The winner earned $100,183 for her fifth win in 18 races, boosting her career total to $383,154. Distinctive Dixie won for the third time in six efforts over the Churchill Downs main track and she is now 3-for-4 at one mile. She was making her first start since finishing third in a the Shelby County Arts Handicap at Indiana Downs July 7.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert David Randal bred Distinctive Dixie in Kentucky.
Distinctive Dixie paid $16.40, $7.20, and $4.60 as the fourth choice in the field of 11 and topped a $157.40 exacta. Third Dawn returned $9.80 and $.480, with Always a Princess paying $3 to show.
Bronx City Girl, Double Espresso, First Passage, Emmy Darling, Direct Line, Devil by Design, Be Fair, and Taste's Sis completed the order. Alpha Kitten scratched.
