With trainer John Shirreffs observing, Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (gr. IT) winner Harmonious, worked five furlongs in 1:05 4/5 over the main track at Keeneland on Oct. 29.
The Dynaformer filly is scheduled to make her next start in the $2 million Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT) on Nov. 5 at Churchill Downs.
"We wanted to give her a nice easy workout today," said Shirreffs, who made a quick trip to Lexington for the workout under exercise rider Frankie Herrarte. "We didn’t want her to do a lot, just stretch her legs a little."
Harmonious, who races for Martin, Emily and Pam Wygod, has remained at Keeneland since she won the QE II on Oct. 16. Shirreffs said the filly, who also won the American Oaks (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park in July, would ship to Churchill Nov. 1. She will be ridden in the Breeders’ Cup by Joel Rosario, who was aboard her in the QE II.
Shirreffs was scheduled to depart Lexington in early afternoon to return to Southern California to tend to some other important business, including Zenyatta’s final work before she defends her title in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. IT) on Nov. 6. Zenyatta is to leave California for Kentucky on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
