Florida Horsewoman Gail Gee Dies

Gail Gee

Gail Gee, owner of Derby Daze Farm near Ocala, Fla., died Oct. 26 in Ocala. She was 45.

Born in Texas and raised in Arkansas, Gee was active in Quarter Horse racing before her stint with Thoroughbreds. She relocated to Ocala in 1998 and became the owner/operator of Derby Daze.

Gee’s best horse was homebred Hooh Why, whom Gee raced in partnership. Hooh Why beat Gozzip Girl in last year’s Ashland Stakes (gr. I). She won this year’s Seaway Stakes (Can-III).

Gee was a member of the Florida Thoroughbred Owners’ and Breeders’ Association. Her survivors include daughters Rebecca and Rosemary; her parents, E.B. Gee Jr. and Rosemary; and a brother and sister.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 29, at 3:00 p.m. at Derby Daze. Contributions may be made to the Florida Thoroughbred Charities, 8015 W. 60th Ave., Ocala, FL 34474.
