Halt Thoroughbred Inc.’s Van Nistelrooy Gal set a new record for a win payoff at Remington Park when the 5-year-old mare won a $7,500 claiming event at 141-1 the evening of Oct. 21.
With Benny Landeros riding for trainer Stacy Barnes, Van Nistelrooy Gal got up late to defeat even-money favorite Crossfirehurricane by a neck and pay $284.60 to win for a $2 ticket. The previous payoff mark of $254.20 was set Oct. 28, 2001, when Cherokee County won a $7,500 claimer at Remington.
The victory was the second in 18 starts for Van Nistelrooy Gal, a Kentucky-bred by Van Nistelrooy. She was one of five fillies and mares dispatched at more than 100-1 in the 14-horse field.
