Funny Crazy Tops Deauville Session

Funny Crazy, a filly by Chichicastenango, was the most expensive horse sold on the first day of Part 2 of Arqana’s Deauville October yearling sale in France. She brought €80,000 ($110,766 in U.S. funds) Oct. 20 from John Hammond.

Consigned by Haras de la Gisloterie, the gray yearling is a full sister to 2007 Prix de Fontainebleau (Fr-III) winner Chichi Creasy. Their dam, Folle Garde (by Garde Royale), won four of her 40 career races.

The results for the session included a gross of €2,410,000 ($3,336,840) for the 134 yearlings that sold. The average price was €17,985 ($24,902) and the median price was €15,000 ($20,769).

The clearance rate for the 195 horses offered was 68.7%. Fourteen yearlings were sold privately for €134,500 ($186,226).

Part 1 of the auction was held Oct. 18 and 19. The cumulative figures for all three days included a gross of €9,946,000 ($13,771,000) for the 335 horses that sold. The average was €29,690 ($41,108) and the median was €22,000 ($30,461).

The clearance rate for the 447 yearlings offered was 74.9%. The 28 horses that were sold privately grossed €353,000 ($488,757).

With one day remaining in the auction, the gross had exceeded last year’s total.
