Harry T. Mangurian Jr. has donated $1-million to the NTRA Charities -- New York Heroes Fund. The fund will assist the spouses and children of the New York City firefighters, police, emergency service personnel, and other victims of the World Trade Center disaster on Sept. 11.
"The tragic events of last week require as much support as each of us can provide, in whatever form. I am pleased to be able to help the NTRA's Heroes Fund and our country," Mangurian said of his contribution.
Mangurian, a former resident of Rochester, N.Y and the owner of Mockingbird Farm near Ocala, Fla., was the leading breeder in 1999 and 2000, and finished second in Eclipse Award balloting for outstanding breeder of 2000. This year Mangurian/Mockingbird Farm is listed as the breeder of 22 stakes winners, including grade I winners Exciting Story, Dark Ending, and Nany's Sweep.
Mangurian began dispersing his breeding stock in 1999 and the last of his mares will go through the auction ring this year. After the dispersal, he will continue to have horses in training.
