Churchill Downs Incorporated announced Oct. 18 that Liz Harris will become vice president and executive director of the Churchill Downs Incorporated Foundation, effective Oct. 25. Harris has been the vice president of corporate communications since joining CDI in August 2009.

In her new role, Harris will report to Brett Hale, senior vice president of corporate and government relations. A replacement for Harris as the head of corporate communications will be named later.

Harris will work out of both CDI’s corporate office in Louisville, Ky. and TwinSpires.com’s office in Lexington, Ky.

"Churchill Downs has always been committed to charitable causes, but with the continued weakness in the economy there is a need for us to take a stronger lead in supporting the communities and industries in which we operate," Robert L. Evans, CDI president and CEO said in a statement.

Harris, who is the former executive director of Thoroughbred Charities of America, added, "I am thrilled to be offered this leadership role in growing the CDI Foundation to its full potential."
