Adele Dilschneider and Claiborne Farm’s homebred Blame , a leading contender for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) at Churchill Downs Nov. 6, worked a half-mile in :47 3/5 under Casey Chavez at Keeneland Oct. 17.
Working by himself shortly before 8 a.m., Blame posted fractions of :11 4/5, :24 1/5, and :35 4/5 and went out five furlongs in 1:00 1/5. It was Blame’s first work since finishing second to Haynesfield in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I) at Belmont Park Oct. 2. The loss snapped a five-race win streak.
“That was good, and he looked great doing it. I am pleased,” trainer Al Stall Jr. said about the 4-year-old son of Claiborne stallion Arch . “He will work in company next Sunday (Oct. 24), ship to Churchill on Wednesday the 27th, and have a blowout there with (jockey) Garrett (Gomez) on the 31st.”
Blame, out of the Seeking the Gold mare Liable, has won or placed in all 12 starts and has earned $1,668,214.
