Roy Arnold has resigned as president of Arlington Park and its OTB affiliates, Churchill Downs Inc. announced Oct. 11.

Arnold came to Arlington from the United States Marine Corps in March 2006 without experience in the racing industry. His tenure at Arlington culminated in his election in 2009 as president of the Thoroughbred Racing Associations.

No successor was immediately announced.

"I've had a great experience at Arlington Park and I am very proud of our accomplishments," Arnold said in a statement by CDI, which owns Arlington. "That said, I've been here four and a half years and I really want to explore new challenges and opportunities. I wish the Arlington Park team the absolute best and am confident their future is bright."

"We are deeply appreciative of Roy's contributions to Arlington Park and to Churchill Downs, and we respect his plans to pursue other career interests," said Bill Carstanjen, chief operating officer of CDI. "His strategic and operational skills will serve him well in his future endeavors."

CDI said Arnold will serve as a consultant for an unspecified transition period.
