Quality Road headed Todd Pletcher’s worktab at Belmont Park the morning of Oct. 10, breezing five furlongs in 1:01.06 in preparation for the Nov. 6 Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) at Churchill Downs.
Sent over the the New York oval's training track with grade III-winning grass runner Pleasant Strike , Quality Road’s breeze was termed “an exceptionally good work with a very strong gallop-out” by trainer Todd Pletcher.
Also working over the training track for Pletcher was Repole Stable’s Three Chimneys Hopeful (gr. I) runner-up Stay Thirsty , who covered five furlongs in 1:02.12. The son of Bernardini is looking toward the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I).
On the main track, grade I winner Bribon, most recently sixth in the Forego (gr. I) on closing weekend at Saratoga and under consideration for supplementation to either the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Sprint or Dirt Mile (both gr. I), covered four furlongs in :48.92.
In other notable works, Godolphin Stable sent out Gayego to breeze four furlongs in :47.44, the second-fastest of 46 works at the distance. Gayego, who followed a fourth-place finish in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (gr. I) this summer at Saratoga with a win in the Presque Isle Mile Sept. 10, is being pointed toward the BC Dirt Mile. Also on the worktab for Godolphin was Vineyard Haven , who worked five furlongs in 1:00.97, also in preparation for a likely start in the Dirt Mile.
