The California state Senate Oct. 7 confirmed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s appointment of chairman Keith Brackpool and actress Bo Derek and to the California Horse Racing Board.

The Senate also approved David Israel and member Richard Rosenberg to the seven-member commission that oversees horse racing and gambling regulations in the state.

Israel is a writer and TV producer whose credits include "The Untouchables" and "Midnight Caller." Derek owns a pet care products company, has written of her love of horses, and is an animal rights activist.

The four appointments were all confirmed without opposition.

All four confirmations were held up by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg in the Senate Rules Committee Aug. 25. Steinberg’s office said then that he wanted extra time to consider appointments that would extend past when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger leaves office early next year.

Schwarzenegger appointed Brackpool and Rosenberg to the CHRB in September 2009. The governor first appointed vice chairman Israel and Derek to the Board in July 2008 and then reappointed them in March 2010. All such appointments require Senate confirmation.

According to the CHRB, Brackpool's new term is through July 26, 2013. Those for Israel and Derek are good until Jan. 1, 2014, while Rosenberg's term is through July 26, 2012.
