Guided Tour Draws Post 3 for Kentucky Cup Classic

Morton Fink's Guided Tour drew post 3 for his start Saturday in the $400,000 Kentucky Cup Classic (gr. II) and was installed the 7-5 morning-line favorite. Only five other horses will face the 118-pound highweight in the marquee race on the Kentucky Cup card at Turfway Park.

Only 34 horses were drawn into the five stakes races to be run on the Kentucky Cup card. The Classic will be shown live on espn2 with coverage beginning at 5 p.m. EDT.

Balto Star, the second choice on the morning line at 9-5, drew post 2. Winner of the Spiral Stakes (gr. II) at Turfway this spring, Balto Star enters the 1 1/8-mile Classic off a win on the grass at Saratoga in his first start back since racing in the Triple Crown. Pat Day, who was aboard in upstate New York, retains the mount on Anstu Stable's runner who is trained by Todd Pletcher.

Guided Tour, trained by Niall O'Callaghan, will be making his seventh start of the year and 21st over the last two years, defeated Captain Steve in the Stephen Foster at Churchill Downs in June. He was a four-length winner over A Fleets Dancer in the Washington Park at Arlington Park on July 21. Regular rider Larry Melancon has the mount. A Fleets Dancer will take another crack at Guided Tour in the Kentucky Cup Classic. Jockey Robert Landry will be aboard A Fleets Dancer for trainer Roger Attfield and they will break from post 5. The morning line price on A Fleets Dancer is 10-1.

Da Devil, upset winner of the 1999 Kentucky Cup Classic will break from the rail. Other runners include Fajardo, post 4, 8-1 in the morning line with Joe Johnson aboard, and Performing Magic, post 6, 3-1 under Victor Espinoza.

Spain, seeking a repeat victory in the $200,000 Turfway Breeders' Cup (gr. III), will have to do so from the outside post seven earlier on the card. The Thoroughbred Corp.'s 4-year-old filly won last year's Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) at 55-1 after winning the 1 1/16 mile race at Turfway. Espinoza will ride the daughter of Thunder Gulch who has been made the 5-2 morning line favorite.

City Zip, one of the top 2-year-olds of last year and a bona fide sprint specialist as a sophomore, has drawn post 6 for the $150,000 Kentucky Cup Sprint (gr. III) for 3-year-olds. Installed the 6-5 morning line favorite for the six-furlong race, City Zip will be ridden by Jose Ferrer for trainer Linda Rice. He should face his toughest test from Wild Hits, winner of the Bet Twice Stakes at Arlington Park in his last start. Wild Hits, trained by Tom Durant, will break to City Zip's outside. Another top contender is the Paul McGee-trained Dream Run.
