Makfi, this season’s Stanjames.com Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) winner and a conqueror of star filly Goldikova, has been retired from racing. He will enter stud in 2011 at David Redvers’ Tweenhills Stud near Hartpury, England. His fee is 25,000 pounds (about $39,500).

Makfi last raced in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Eng-I) Sept. 25, finishing fifth. He was retired with four wins from six starts and earnings of $867,460.

“His owners wanted to see him race again, but he has been on the go nonstop for more than a year, and it’s been a long season competing in top-class races,” Redvers said. “He had his first race this year in April before he won the Guineas.

“He now has a dose of ringworm, and while it will clear up quickly, there is no guarantee he will be 100% for his next race. At that level you have to be at the top of your game.”

Makfi defeated Goldikova in the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard-Jacques le Marois (Fr-I) in August.

Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Estate Company Limited is the breeder of Makfi, whose dam, Dhelaal (by Green Desert), is a half sister to European champion Alhaarth.
