The on-track handle and attendance easily eclipsed last year’s numbers Oct. 2 at New York's Belmont Park for a card that included the $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (gr. I), which was won by Haynesfield . All-sources handle also rose.
All-sources handle was $18,191,317, up 19.7% from last year’s all-sources handle of $15,194,497. On-track handle was $2,153,130, up 31.6% from the $1,636,285 wagered on track last year.
This year’s attendance of 9,671 outpaced last year’s attendance of 7,000 by 38%.
“It was a great day of racing here at Belmont Park,” said New York Racing Association president and CEO Charles Hayward. “Today’s five grade I races featured excellent competitive fields and will lead up nicely to the Breeders’ Cup (World Championships) at Churchill Downs in November.”
