Keeneland officials have unveiled a traffic and parking plan for the Oct. 8-30 fall meet that includes a charge for parking in the lots that enter the Lexington track from Gate 2.
During the fall meet, Gate 2, which handles traffic through main entrance that leads to the clubhouse and grandstand from Versailles Road, will accommodate four lanes of incoming traffic simultaneously, with each lane feeding to a separate pay option:
--"Louisville" lot traffic will be directed via lane A and parked immediately on the left, just inside Gate 2; cost is $5 per car and is open to the general public;
--Clubhouse parking, available only to members of the Keeneland Club and their guests, will take lane B;
--Public valet patrons will be directed via lane C and parked adjacent to the South Grandstand entrance; cost is $10 per car and is open to the general public;
--Preferred parking patrons will be directed via lane D and parked in rows 13 thru 21; cost is $5 per car and is open to the general public
The Gate 1 entrance—located directly across from Man O’ War Boulevard—will be designated for free parking. Gate 1 is accessible from both directions on Versailles Road and northbound Man O’ War Boulevard.
Additionally, Keeneland is relocating its tailgating section to the area adjacent to the Keene Barn and Entertainment Center, which is accessible via Gate 1 at no charge.
In the announcement, Keeneland said it will increase the number and frequency of shuttles running from the tailgate area and from the free parking lots to the grandstand and add automated pari-mutuel machines in the Keene Barn to allow wagering on the day’s races.
In a statement, Vince Gabbert, executive assistant to Keeneland president Nick Nicholson, said the changes are a result of a review of a traffic plan that was first implemented last fall but not fully tested until the 2010 spring meet.
