Pool Play won the 2009 Durham Cup by one length.
Pool Play and Palladio, the last two winners of the $150,000 Durham Cup (Can-III), are both back for another try in the 1 1/8-mile Polytrack race Oct. 3 at Woodbine.
A field of six was drawn for the Durham Cup, with
Southdale carrying top weight of 121 pounds based on his Eclipse Stakes (Can-III) victory earlier this season. Also in the field is 2009 Queen’s Plate winner
Eye of the Leopard.
William S. Farish’s Pool Play won the 2009 Durham Cup by one length for his lone stakes score. The 5-year-old Mark Casse trainee is winless in nine starts since then but missed by a head in the July 1 Dominion Day (Can-III) at Woodbine. Jockey Patrick Husbands will have the mount.
Haras Santa Maria de Araras’ Palladio won the 2008 Durham Cup by 1 3/4 lengths and was third last year. He closed out his 2009 campaign with a victory in the Autumn Stakes (Can-II) but is 0-for-4 this season. Richard Dos Ramos will ride for Roger Attfield, who has won the race six times.
