Breeders' Cup Wagering Menu Announced
The Breeders’ Cup announced Sept. 23 the wagering menu and post times for the 27th World Championships on Nov. 5-6 at Churchill Downs.
This year’s wagering menu on the 14 Breeders’ Cup races includes two all Breeders’ Cup Ultra Pick Sixes; $6 million in guaranteed pools; 10-cent superfectas, 50-cent Pick 4’s, rolling Pick 3's, a Ladies' Classic—Breeders' Cup Classic daily double, and the Breeders’ Cup Jockey Bet. For the first time, all 14 Breeders’ Cup races will have a maximum of 14 betting interests.
There will be a total of 10 races (six Breeders’ Cup races) on the Friday, Nov. 5 program and 11 races on Saturday, Nov. 6 (eight Breeders' Cup races). Friday’s card begins at 2 p.m. EDT and the first Breeders’ Cup race—the $500,000 Breeders' Cup Marathon (gr. III)—is at 4:10 p.m. Post time for the Ladies Classic (gr. I), which will be under lights for the first time, is at 7:30.
On Saturday, first post is 12:05 p.m. EDT. The first Breeders’ Cup race is scheduled to be the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. IIT) at 1:50 p.m. The Classic (gr. I) is set for 6:45 p.m.
The race order for both days of the World Championships will be finalized on Oct. 27. The remainder of each day’s card will be set after entries and post positions will be drawn on Nov. 2.
In addition to the standard win, place, and show betting, there will be exacta and trifecta wagering on every race and rolling Pick 3 wagers beginning with the first race and continuing through all races on both days. Among the featured wagers returning this year are:
• The Breeders' Cup Jockey Bet. Wagers will be offered on the jockey who has the most wins in the 14 Breeders' Cup Championships races over the two-day event. The wager will open for advance betting on Nov. 4 and will close prior to the running of the Breeders’ Cup Marathon on Friday. A morning line will be published.
• Each day's Breeders’ Cup Ultra Pick Six wager will have a guaranteed pool and feature only Championships races. Friday’s Ultra Pick 6 will have a guaranteed gross pool of $750,000 and Saturday's Ultra Pick 6 will feature a $2 million guaranteed gross pool. If no one hits the Friday Ultra Pick 6, the pool will carry over into Saturday's Ultra Pick 6. The wager is a mandatory payout at the end of the Saturday program.
• A Daily Double wager linking the Breeders’ Cup Ladies' Classic on Friday to the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday will also be offered. Last year’s inaugural “Classic Double” of Ladies’ Classic winner Life is Sweet and Classic winner Zenyatta paid $92.60.
Other wagering highlights this year are:
The Pick 4, which now has a 50-cent minimum instead of $1 in past years. There will be three guaranteed Pick 4 pools. Friday’s all Championships Pick 4 will have a guaranteed pool of $750,000. On Saturday, there will be two guaranteed Pick 4s. The early all Championships Pick 4 will have a $1 million guaranteed gross pool and the late all Championships Pick 4 will have a $1.5 million gross pool.
Super High Fives on both the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic and the Breeders' Cup Classic. Bettors are required to select the first five finishing places on one ticket. If no one hits the Super High Five on Friday the pool will carry over to Saturday's Super High Five on the Classic. The wager is a mandatory payout after the Classic.
