Two Added to Old Friends Board of Directors

Former trainer Dennis Brida and Thoroughbred owner Carol Nyren have been appointed to the board of directors of Old Friends, the Thoroughbred retirement facility in Georgetown, Ky.

Brida, who operates Mango Deli in Saratoga Springs, New York, retired from training in 2001 to become executive director of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

Nyren’s New York-based stable is headed by Suburban Handicap (gr. II) winner Dry Martini, a a 7-year-old gelding destined to become a future resident at Old Friends. According to a release from Old Friends, Nyren helped organize the opening and fund-raiser for Old Friends at Cabin Creek, the Bobby Frankel Division, the first satellite facility for Old Friends.

According to the Old Friends release, the board approved a proposal to raise funds for the purchase of the 264-acre property near Stillwater, N. Y., formerly owned by Sez Who Thoroughbreds to be used as a retirement facility.
