Informed Decision takes the Presque Isle Downs Masters in the final strides.

Informed Decision kept her record at Presque Isle Downs perfect with a narrow victory in the $400,000 Masters Stakes (gr. III) Sept. 11 (VIDEO).

The champion female sprinter got squeezed and stumbled leaving the gate and was left for last as second choice Dr. Zic led down the backstretch. Still second to last on the turn, Informed Decision found her stride in the stretch while eight wide and resolutely ran down Dubai Majesty to win by a head in 1:15.62 on Tapeta.

Ridden by regular rider Julien Leparoux, the even-money favorite returned $3.20, $2.60, and $2.20 while Dubai Majesty paid $3.60 and $3. Sweet Lorena ($5.20) was third.

The victory marked the second year  Informed Decision has won the 6 1/2-furlong Presque Isle Downs Masters, which she dominated in 2009. She won the July 27 Windward Stakes at the Pennsylvania track before running an uncharacteristic sixth in the Aug. 28 Ballerina Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga, a performance her connections attributed to a surface she didn't like.

Her Masters win made her a multimillionaire with earnings of $2,194,426 and a record of 14 victories from 20 starts.

Trained by Jonathan Sheppard for Augustin Stable, the 5-year-old daughter of Monarchos   is an nine-time graded stakes winner, including three grade I scores. She capped off her stellar 2009 season with a victory in the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (gr. I) at Santa Anita, helping to wrap up the female sprint championship.

The gray/roan mare is out of the His Majesty mare Palangana and was bred in Kentucky by C. Kidder and N. Cole.
