Retired jockey Richard Migliore, equine retirement facility Old Friends, and veteran Turf writer Neil Milbert will be honored by the National Turf Writers Association at its Nov. 3 dinner in Louisville, Ky., the week of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

Migliore, who rode the winners of 4,450 races and earned the Eclipse Award for outstanding apprentice jockey in 1981, will receive the Mr. Fitz Award, presented each year to an individual or group for typifying the spirit of horse racing.

Kentucky-based Old Friends Equine, the only Thoroughbred rescue/retirement facility that accepts pensioned stallions, will receive the Joe Palmer Award. Named for the former New York Herald Tribune Turf writer, the Palmer Award is presented annually for meritorious service to racing.

Milbert, a former director of the NTWA and lead Turf writer and sportswriter at the Chicago Tribune from 1968 to 2008, will receive the Walter Haight Award. Named for the former Washington Post Turf writer and columnist, the Haight Award is presented annually for excellence in Turf writing.
