Patriotism has been prominent at Keeneland's yearling sale since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Despite last week's terrorist attacks and concerns about the U.S. economy that caused a huge drop in the stock market Monday, the average and median prices for this year's Keeneland September Yearling Sale continue to outpace the banner auction in 2000.

During Monday's session, top price of $295,000 was paid by Mauk Equine Brokerage for an Unbridled's Song filly produced from Mercenary Hawk. The filly was consigned by Bedouin Bloodstock.

Keeneland reported 252 horses were sold Monday for a total of $9,231,500, with an average of $36,633 and a $25,000 median. During the comparable session one year ago, 292 horses averaged $36,594 from a gross of $10,685,400, with a $27,000 median. The 101 horses that did not sell Monday represented 28.6% of the total through the ring.

Cumulative figures show 1,610 horses have been sold so far for $234,127,500, with a cumulative average of $145,421 and $62,000 median price. At the same point last year, 1,834 yearlings had averaged $143,764 from a gross of $263,663,300 and a median of $60,000.
