Handle, Attendance Rise for Travers Stakes

The on-track attendance and handle rose for the Travers Stakes (gr. I) program Aug. 28 at Saratoga and the all-sources handle also increased, according to the New York Racing Association.
 
A crowd of 45,764 saw Afleet Express defeat Fly Down by a nose in the “Midsummer Derby,” an increase of 33.7% from last year’s attendance of 34,221 on hand for Summer Bird’s victory.
 
On-track handle for the Aug. 28 card was $8,218,975, an increase of 19.9% from last year’s total of $6,853,155. Total all-sources handle was $33,890,996, up 11.3% from last year’s $30,449,575.
