Del Mar reported an increase in average daily attendance and decrease in average daily handle for the first five weeks of its 2010 meet.
Through Aug. 22, average daily attendance was 19,324, up 6.1% from 18,213 for the same period in 2009.
Average daily handle for the period was $11,664,333, down 5.9% from $12,389,267 for the first five weeks of 2009, officials at the Southern California track said. Some of the decline was attributed to fewer races; 217 have been run this year versus 231 for the same period last year.
Average daily handle through advance deposit wagering services was up 0.6%, from $2,157,234 last year to $2,170,633 this year.
