Take the Points won eight of 16 starts.

Take the Points, winner of last year’s Secretariat Stakes (gr. IT) at Arlington Park, has been retired from racing after fracturing a splint bone in his right front leg. According to trainer Todd Pletcher, the injury does not warrant surgery. Take the Points is stabled at Saratoga.

Four-year-old Take the Points raced for Jack and Laurie Wolf’s Starlight Partners, winning or placing in eight of 16 races and earning $943,590. He last raced in the July 3 Betfair/TVG United Nations Stakes (gr. IT) and ran second.

“After talking to Mr. Wolf, it was decided that it would be next year by the time he could race again, so it was decided to retire him,” Pletcher said. “There are no stud plans yet.”

Take the Points (Even the Score  --Ginger Ginger, by Fred Astaire) also won the Jamaica Handicap (gr. II) and placed in the Virginia Derby (gr. IIT) and the Sham Stakes (gr. III), all last year.

Take the Points was bred in Kentucky by Phoenix Farm.
